Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League last-16 tie at Old Trafford last week was a disappointing end to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s unbeaten start to life as the club’s caretaker manager.
But, given the money spent and the comparative recent fortunes of the two sides, it was a result that should not be held against United, Solskjaer or the manager’s hopes of landing the job full-time; beating PSG would have been the icing on the cake but the Norwegian’s impressive work in getting United back into the top four is an achievement that should not be detracted from.
The loss to injury of Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard during the first half against PSG could end up being a bigger blow that the defeat itself, though, with crucial games against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and Liverpool at home up next.
In the above video, we look at how these injury absences could shine a spotlight on United’s three former Chelsea players for the trip to Stamford Bridge to take on the Blues in the FA Cup fifth round.
